I'd heard Jerry Jeff Walker's version and asked the same question. Given Jerry Jeff's checkered past, I figured it could mean just about ANYTHING!

The answer was surprisingly tame, and it was buried, as is so much, at wikipedia. Their article on diner lingo, or diner slang, cleared it up. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diner_lingo It's a good article, and a good read.

Short version, in the golden age of diners, before computerized ordering systems, the waiter or waitress would call out orders to the cooks. And to stave off boredom and to make the orders memorable, they came up with their own slang. If you hear the waiter asking for "Noah's boy", well, that's Ham. And Whiskey toast? That's rye bread. There are two major possibilities for that name. One is, they make whiskey from rye. Also, rye bread tends to be browner than most breads, so it looks more like whiskey.

Anyway, there it is. Rye bread.

'It's three eggs up on whisky toast'----this is a line from Tom Russells song
Navajo Rug which the band I play with cover in our reportiore. What is whisky toast? I've assumed that it's bread dowsed in whisky and then fried, but of course, I'm guessing. Would be nice to know what I'm singing about.
Thanks in anticipation of enlightenment!
